Trauma affects people from all walks of life. It is important to remember that trauma is your experience of an event, not the event itself. No matter how big or small, recent or distant, if your body is still reacting to the memory of an event, it may be time to discuss it with a therapist. Your experiences and reactions are valid and should not be brushed off or minimized.

Therapy can provide a safe space for you to process your experiences and work through any lingering effects they may be having on your life. You can learn to cope with triggers, manage symptoms, and develop healthy coping mechanisms at your own pace.

Transforming Trauma: The Revolutionary Impact of EMDR Therapy

Do you want to work on your past traumas but have not had success with traditional therapy? It might be time to try Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

EMDR is an evidence-based therapeutic approach. It is unique in its use of bilateral stimulation to process trauma. Bilateral stimulation can be achieved by moving your eyes back and forth, tapping each side of your body, or hearing sounds in alternating ears. We will work together to decrease the disturbance you feel when you think about the memory.

This therapeutic approach can seem confusing on paper. The question I receive most when I tell people about EMDR is, “how can moving your eyes fix PTSD?” The brain works in mysterious and wonderful ways. EMDR unlocks the brain’s natural healing abilities. This protocol is based on science, rigorously tested, and has been proven to be effective in treating PTSD.

We can discuss if EMDR is the right therapeutic approach for you. If we agree that this would be a beneficial approach for you, we will spend time understanding the process so that you will know exactly what to expect when you are ready to start processing your trauma. EMDR is a wonderful tool to treat PTSD and could be helpful for you.
